What clients say about their tours

The following are testimonials from Scenic Bird Tours clients, some of whom have stayed with me at Finca Limoneros.

For more details of tours with these clients see Trip Reports.

Jonathan Hiley, Wigan, UK (July 2008)

Just a quick note to say thanks for the tour last week. The Black Wheatear was a highlight in the mountains. Thanks also for the advice on the Rio Guadalhorce Nature Reserve. I went there in the afternoon and saw a host of birds including Audouin's Gulls, White-headed Ducks and a Melodious Warbler (all lifers).

Ross and Carol Haddow, Holt, Norfolk, UK (June 2008)

Thank you wholeheartedly for a wonderful day. So many highlights, a well planned breathtaking route, great picnic site and very difficult to pick a best moment but the Choughs and Black Wheatears are particularly memorable.... many thanks for everything...

Keith Turner, Lake District, UK (June 2008)

I was very fortunate to be introduced to Keith while visiting a friend in Alora. Keith's business involves taking parties around the local birdwatching sites. His wealth of knowledge of the birds was fascinating and very informative. An absolute must for anyone visiting the area. Thanks again Keith.

Colin and Nicky Lamond, Verwood, Dorset, UK (May 2008)

A very relaxing three days - we both loved "Abigail" - much better than a hotel.
Many thanks for the birding tour - much appreciated and recommended.

Waine and Sue, Swansea, UK (April 2008)

Excellent relaxing accommodation in real Spain, breakfast in the sunshine, dinner in the shade over looking sunlit mountains. Thank you Keith, for three days of top rate birding and help, thanks to your guidance we managed to see two lifers ourselves on the way back to our flight in Malaga, how cool is that!

Terry and Don, Cairns, Australia (April 2008)

Very nice accommodation with everything supplied. Three great day (birding) tours with Keith. Great birds and scenery.
Our drive down to Tarifa to see the migration was well worth it. Thanks, Keith.

Janet and Rod, Exeter, Devon, UK (March 2008)

We had a very enjoyable day with Keith not only bird watching but seing some of the beautiful countryside. It was the highlight of our stay in Andalucia and would thoroughly recommend to anyone visiting. We are quite amateur birdwatchers so it was very helpful to have Keith instantly recognising birds and taking us to exactly the right places. We certainly hope to return again. Thank you for a great day and thanks for the coffee (Keith has a liking for shortcake biscuits so make sure you have a good supply!)

Andrew and Sandra Fisher, Edinburgh, UK (January 2008)

Just a quick thank-you for our trip yesterday. We greatly enjoyed the
birdwatching, and also the chance to see some of the places we visited 4
years ago as well as lots of new spots. Having a knowledgeable guide took
all the hassle out of the trip, and certainly made sure we saw more than
we'd have done on our own.

Thanks for a most enjoyable day out.

Ian and Mary Winterflood, Fylde, Blackpool, UK (November 2007)

On our arrival in Southern Spain it soon became obvious that we couldn’t identify all the local birds from the books and needed some extra help. When our hosts suggested a tour with a local English speaking expert we leapt at the opportunity.

Keith provided an excellent and very full day out. He proved a knowledgeable but easy going and friendly host and the day passed very quickly. Not only was he able to help identify the birds, he also knew the best locations. These included places we would never have found on our own, way off the beaten track. A wide variety of habitats was visited ensuring that a good cross section of the local birdlife was seen.

Highlights included: a close view of a Little Owl and a Blue Rock Thrush near the Valle de Abdalajis, Crossbills and Crested Tits in the woods near El Chorro, and the 25+ Griffon Vultures, Peregrine, Kestrel and Golden Eagle all seen at Peñarrubia.

All in all it was an excellent day and we hope to return sometime for another trip.

Will and Priscilla, Abingdon, UK (October 2007)

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Keith's finca, the studio is immaculate and very pleasant - the location is outstanding with lovely views over the valley. We shall miss our birdwatching breakfasts!

On the birdwatching side, the place is a hidden gem. The guided birding tours were fantastic, even in October - 75+ birds seen, over 35 of which were new to us!

A very special place, perfect for birders and non-birders alike. Thanks Keith.

Dave and Irene, Worksop, UK (September 2007)

Just to say thank-you for an exceptional days birdwatching on 30.9.07. David and I appreciated your enthusiasm and local expert guiding knowledge. The locations were beautiful with the varied habitat allowing us to see many new birds.

PS As you dropped us off in Alora, there was a sparrowhawk flying overhead, so our total for the day was 54 (according to your daily log).

Steve and Julie Houston, Leigh, UK (September 2007)

A wonderful peaceful place to unwind from the stresses of everyday life. Had a fantastic day seeing the wonderful sights and the birdwatching trip with Keith was great.

We look forward to our next visit. Thanks Keith

John and Chris, Nottingham, UK (September 2007)

We had a great day out with Keith visiting at least 8 different habitats, giving us a great opportunity to see as wide a variety of birds as possible. We were so keen, we just had a snack by the car up a track! This enabled us go to the beautiful and wild Sierra de Abdalajis area where we saw Choughs and a Dartford Warbler. Highlights for us have to be the 2 wonderful views of the Short -toed Eagle from above and watching it sitting on a ridge, the lovely view of the Hoopoe, seeing a rarer Wood Sandpiper and the unusual looking brightly coloured Common Redstart. A memorable day. Thanks Keith.

Roger and Glenys Gregson, Poynton, Cheshire, UK (September 2007)

We booked in January and watching the website daily built up our anticipation for the visit and we have not been disappointed. Had a great day birding with Keith. Birds seen included Waxbill, Wryneck, Night Heron, Short-toed Eagle, Griffon, Black Kite, Bee-eater, Golden Oriole, Southern Grey Shrike and many more.
A perfect base for birdwatching and visits to the lakes and mountains. We will be back.

Dave and Martha Taylor, Calgary, Canada (September 2007)

Finca Limoneros was a terrific break from the hustle and bustle of the big cities and tourist destinations. We enjoyed being able to make our own food or going to a restaurant in town.

Keith's guided two days of birdwatching were fantastic. He knows all the best places to find all the best birds.

Jane and Chris Roby, Solihull, UK (July 2007)

Thanks for an enjoyable day out learning about the birds of Southern Spain. A comfortable and well located base for exploring the area. The pool is a welcome respite from the heat!

Saul and Jae Fisher, PA, USA (July 2007)

Keith's hospitality - from the red wine to our escort from town - was unparallelled! The birding was fantastic and scenic - views breathtaking. A great day birding with a master who knows his birds and where to find them!

Rick and Jackie Pritchard, Nottingham, UK (May 2007)

Thanks for a wonderful relaxing week Keith. The finca is situated in a lovely rural location ideal for unwinding. Great apartment and most enjoyable birding day out. Hope to visit you again one day.

Daniel Lindberg and Anna Berglund, Sweden and Dublin (May 2007)

Thanks Keith for an excellent stay in your nice finca. And thanks for a really nice birding trip. I hope we get the opportunity to visit you again.

Carol Cogswell, Boulder, Colorado (April 2007)

Thank you so much for your exceptional hospitality and of course the fabulous birding experience! We need people like yourselves all over the world to help educate us all to preserving the wonders of our natural wild areas and our rual and urban wildlife. I'll send my birder friends!

Jorma Tenovuo and Outi Sarjakoski, Turku, Finland (February 2007)

We had already done quite a bit birdwatching in the South of Spain during the last few years but spending a couple of days in Rio Guadalhorce area was a pleasant surprise. Not only the estuary but also the nearby hills and mountains, not least the Garganta del Chorro’s area, were impressive in terms of birds and sceneries. Keith was an excellent and most friendly guide who, after living in the area already for quite some time, knew exactly the best spots for the species we were particularly interested in. Since our main interest was in taking photos of birds, that was also surprisingly rewarding in this area. Thanks for Keith for a fine experience and see you again in Malaga area!

Colin and Ruth Tudge, Oxford, UK (April 2006)

We had a very pleasant stay at Finca Limoneros – good location (among the lemon trees), good view, good local walking (including plenty of bee-eaters) and one excellent day out with Keith to see Egyptian Vultures – and in passing the Crag Martins, Blue Rock Thrush, a Black Stork idling its way past, and a lot more I can’t remember. Easy but satisfying birdwatching with a knowledgeable guy who knows the area. Go for it!

Chris Ashworth and Dave, Lancashire and Yorkshire, UK (April 2006)

I really must take this opportunity to thank you for a fantastic days birding. Keith's tour was excellent. We had hoped to see some Bee-eaters and Hoopoes, which we did but it was the unexpected that we saw that stands out. Like the Crested Lark, Great Grey Shrike and Wood Chat Shrike the list goes on and on. . . We would never have seen any of these without Keith's local knowledge. The area he took us to is very reminiscent of Scotland and the Lake district but instead of rain the sun is shinning It was simply spectacular, a hidden gem with breath taking scenery and fabulous birds.

To pick a highlight on this trip is difficult as the whole time we were there we kept seeing something new and unexpected. As we stayed at Finca Limoneros Keith was always on hand at the end of each day and willingly pointed us in the direction of other birding sites, armed with this and the confidence Keith had given us we drove down ridiculous tracks to beautiful scenery and wonderful birds, our birding list flourished. If you never make a decision to do anything again make one now book a birding tour with Keith you won't regret it! We will be returning again and again.

Derek McGinn, Inverness, Scotland (February 2006)

Everything about our short (3days) stay at Finca Limoneros was good - from the personal welcome from our hosts to the comfort of the accommodation. Our day birding with Keith, during a cold period and at such an early date was, nevertheless, a successful blend of new birds, including good raptor species, and an excellent introduction to the area which would have been impossible without Keith's expertise and local knowledge. We commend Finca Limoneros and its hosts to birders and non-birders alike.
